This year on my 3rd trip to Tanzania I decided to extend my stopover in Addis Ababa to four nights. I really didn't know a lot about Ethiopia other than it raises great athletes and is steeped in culture.

Location
Ethiopia lies to the north of Tanzania and locked in between Somalia, Kenya, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti. Looking at the map you can see first of all that Ethiopia has no access to a coastline, which is always problematic for a country.
Growing up in Ireland I always thought of Ethiopia as a hot country but in fact it was quite cool when I was there in July. It was rainy season at the time and jacket and jeans were needed each day.

History
Ethiopia is very unique as an African country that was never colonised properly. It has a very interesting history and this Kiddle page has a very concise summary.

Food
I didn't realise until I arrived in Addis Ababa that Ethiopia is renowned for its food and coffee. I booked myself into a food tour on my third day in the city and got to experience many culinary delights. Blog post to follow!
