In July 2012 as part of HETI teacher education programme, I travelled to Jerusalem to attend seminars in Yad Vashim . I was studying the Certificate in Holocaust Education in conjunction with Trinity College. I can highly recommend this course for any interested primary, secondary or third level educators. Along with studying the history of the Holocaust, it was my first opportunity to learn about the customs, culture and beliefs of the Jewish religion.
The photo I have chosen above sums up Jerusalem for me. Growing up in Ireland, I always believed that Jerusalem was a Catholic place as that is where Jesus spent a lot of his time. I was very wrong!
While there were many Catholics on pilgrimage and many Christian and Catholic churches, the predominant religions are Muslim and Jewish.
